Pantheon is the largest freestanding dome from ancient roman era.Its construction commissioned by Marcus Agrippa but the present building was completed by the emperor Hadrian about 126 AD after it was burnt down by fire in 80 AD. The genius architectural and engineering design of this building is adorable.Interestingly enough Romans has used unreinforced concrete in the dome for which they used light concrete comprising of light tufa and porous volcanic slag layers in upper part of the dome and more brick and tufa concrete with pozzolanic mortar in lower part of the dome.
A multi-purpose roman feature in Pantheon. Was designed in order to light the building and balance the temperature inside the structure specially in summer times. Referred as demon's hole in "Angel and demons" book.
